DR. KITTY CHEUNG
Violinist and Music Educator
Dr. Kitty Cheung is a co-founder of the Romer String Quartet and Contrast Trio, and a member of the violin faculty at the Hong Kong Baptist University. She has performed in over 25 countries as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician at some of the most prestigious venues in the world including Carnegie Hall, Barbican Hall, Vienna Konzerthaus and Wigmore Hall.
Kitty was the Associate Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta from 2011 to 2017, and has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra under the batons of Valery Gergiev, Pierre Boulez and Sir Colin Davis.
Kitty’s solo appearances include performances with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra, and has recorded broadcast performances for BBC Radio 3 and RTHK. She has also recorded for Decca Label, Loft Records, New World Records and Bridge Records, of which the latter was nominated for a Latin Grammy.
Kitty gives regular masterclasses and has taught at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her educational workshops include the Chamber Tots Series in The Wigmore Hall, London.
Kitty holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music, where she won prizes in excellence in teaching, as well as in chamber music, and was appointed as Teaching Assistant of Professor Charles Castleman. She also received Master of Music and Master in Music Performance (Guildhall Artist) degrees, both with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her major teachers include the late Lin Yao-Ji, Ho Hong-Ying, Charles Castleman, David Takeno and Zvi Zeitlin.
Rebecca Li began playing the piano at the age of four and the cello at the age of twelve. She began her formal music education at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Miss Letty Poon. Subsequently, Rebecca studied the cello with Mr. Paul Julien at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Rebecca graduated from the Conservatoire de Bordeaux Jacques Thibaud in France where she studied with Mr Etienne Péclard (previous cello principal of The Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Orchestre de Paris) and Miss Annik Paré (cellist of the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine).
Rebecca is currently a cello teacher in Hong Kong.
Whilst being classically-trained, Rebecca embraces various musical styles. She is an active performer and has appeared in different genres and musical scenes in Hong Kong. She has worked with varies artists such as Andrea Boccelli, Il Divo, Koji Tamaki, and has recently collaborated in a recording an album with the accordionist, Nazar Tabachyshn of Café 852.
